It's actually pretty scary to live here in Mexico, specially in the northern regions where the cartels make their business. Here in Monterrey City you can hear guns shooting near your block almost every day, sometimes even semiautomatic weapons. About two months ago the military force got into a torture house two blocks away from my house. That house belonged to a cartel, I can remember which one. Our police force is untrustworthy and corrupt. If you call them about an emergency there's a very high chance that one of these will happen: a) they won't go to where the emergency is, or b) if it's something about drug cartels they will not do a thing because they are associated with them. What you need to do here to get a (mostly) honorable law enforcer is either call the media or call the army.

A neighbor of a friend got a robber inside of his house once. He and his family got out fast and locked the robber inside so he wouldn't escape. He called the police. He ended with a group of neighbors waiting outside of his house for the robber not to come out and for the police. They waited about three hours and the robber escaped from the backyard.

I could rant all day about my country and that's why I won't let my children live here.
